‘Building Bridges’

Maria | January 5, 2010

‘Building Bridges’ is the theme for this years international women’s exhibition taking place in Eden place Arts Centre in Derry, Northern Ireland.

When we build bridges, we construct platforms, we advance and move forward and by doing so, we repair and improve relationships.

Women have been doing this for centurys. Down through the ages they have been honoured for their strength of character and their unyelding ability to hold families together
in times of great tragedy and strife.

They are the solid foundation, the rocks in which communities are built and International Women’s Day on 8th March 2010 highlights this all over the world
and celebrate the power of women past, present and future and I am delighted to be a small part of this special day and very proud to be a woman.

My four paintings work in sequence.

‘Hidden in the shadows’ depicts the character which everyone sees, while lurking in the background hovers the inner self,
concealing and dealing with all the emotional everyday situations and traumas

‘Cause and effect’ is the consequences of letting the inner character take over.

‘The meeting place’ represents an open market place which is common ground for all colour, creed and nations to come together to communicate and grow.

The final painting ‘Healing light’ is the process which over time takes place after bridges are built.
